Since our group has seemingly taken on the tradition of preparing breakfast/potluck breakfast, I thought we might like to discuss possible ideas for a Potluck.
Potluck ideas:
-Traditional Greasy Spoon Breakfast
-Traditional Indian Breakfast
-Any other ideas?
Please list your ideas in the comments!
I'm up for cooking, if no one else feels inclined.
Also, does anyone have allergies, dietary needs, or anything we all need to know?
ReplyDeleteI have milk sensitivities. Milk products make me sick and give me bad migraines. Butter is fine but no cheese, cream cheese, and milk. And I don't like sugary stuff like pastries, donuts. If we're meeting at a cafe, it'd be nice if they have alternatives to sugary stuff - bagels are fine.
South Indian Breakfast Menu. If you are wondering what that is, here's the description
ReplyDelete1. Dosa - similar to crepes but savory and not at all sweet.
2. Potato curry - Dosa is eaten with a dip/dish of potatoes, onions, spices but it isnt spicy. The spices give it flavor but I'll make it mild.
3. Coconut chutney - it's a dip made of coconut and you can also eat dosas with that. Again not spicy at all.
4. You can also eat dosas with jam or honey. When I was a kid, I used to eat dosas with honey. Or eat it with what you'd typically eat with crepes. It's not the way Indians typically eat it but why not?
5. Chai - black tea, ginger, cardamom, cinnamon, cloves, soy milk (or milk), sugar
6. Tropical fruits or tropical fruit juices.
Thanks Indu for posting. I really do enjoy the new format better. If anything, instead of everyone's inbox getting spammed--I just get email! :P But, I don't see it as a bad thing, since I like getting messages like this! :)
DeleteI think actual French crepes tend to be a little more savory than how they tend to be prepared in the US. The fresh berries and cream is where the sweetness comes from. You are only suppose to put just enough sugar for flavor as opposed to super sweet. :P
